Although diabetes cannot be cured, it can be treated and controlled very successfully.

People who suffer from Type 1 diabetes is treated by injections of insulin for the rest of their lives and a healthy diet with the right balance of foods. Insulin cannot be taken in the form of fluid or pills as it will get destroyed by the digestive juices in the stomach. It must therefore be injected into the fat under the skin in order for it to reach your blood.

Type 2 diabetes suffers requires an intake of a healthy diet that contains the right balance of foods. If your healthcare provider finds that a healthy diet is not enough to keep your blood glucose (sugar) levels to a normal, it may be necessary to take pills.

The main aim of treatment for both types of diabetes is to achieve blood glucose (sugar) and blood pressure levels as near to normal as possible. This, together with a healthy lifestyle, will help to improve your wellbeing and protect you against long-term damages to the eyes, kidneys, nerves, heart, and major arteries.
